typing games for kid

DESCRIPTION
Typing-Games supplements the Typing-Fingers teaching program, and as the title suggests, it is a collection of four games. It is designed to practise the movement of fingers over the keyboard. Thus Typing-Games introduces an element of play into the teaching process.
As soon as Typing-Games has been started, it is necessary to register in the same way as it was in Typing-Fingers. This means there is a choice of keyboard type (QWERTZ, QWERTY etc.) and difficulty level (Basic, Standard, Proficiency).
Then the player enters the main screen which is divided into three parts. The upper bar shows the Menu. On the left, you will find information indicating the difficulty level and the current score in terms of Correct, Missed, and Errors. The third and largest area is reserved for the game itself.
The menu includes a Program section which facilitates choosing a game, changing users and detail settings, and ending the game. If you click on Game, you can interrupt, terminate or restart the game, as well as check and alter the game settings in the sense of accompanying sounds. Top Score records the results achieved. The same function is performed by Internet Top Score which gives you a chance to register your result on the Typing-Fingers web page. Window Size adjusts the screen size to one of the two available resolutions (either 640x480 or 800x600 and higher). The Help section activates references under How to play providing hints for the individual games. Data about the producer of the games can also be found in the Help section along with a chance to visit his homepage directly.

All the four games share the same time limit after which the game is automatically terminated. Those characters that the player has not managed to copy are marked as Missed. There can only be twenty of those at most. Entering a character different from the one indicated becomes an Error. The maximum number of Errors allowed is ten.

The introductory game is called the Snake. Characters to be copied are gradually coming up in the game area where there are also two snakes attempting to catch these characters. It is essential to press the right key before the approaching snake swallows the character. The game can be played on several levels with a continually increasing degree of difficulty.

The next game is called the Character. It is again based on the ability to press the right key at the right moment. This time the game is organized into two columns, one of which shows a character and the other contains a timer. A failure to key in the right character before the expiry of the time limit shown on the right will count as an error. So will a choice of the wrong key.

The Word is the name of another game, which suggests that the task will involve writing of a given word or chain of characters. The screen is split into two rows. The upper row gives the text to be copied and the lower one shows the text as written by the player. Each time you press the wrong key you must correct your mistake in order to be able to continue.

CatchChars is the last game in the set. In this application, the player gets an opportunity to "shoot" at the characters on display. The point is to press the keyboard fast and correctly with the right character. The rather slow pace at the start of the game gradually accelerates.
